CARE, COMFORT & COMPASSION
HOSPICE OF KONA SERVICES... PATIENT CARE Hospice is a program of care and support for people who are terminally ill (with a life expectancy of 6 months or less, if the illness runs its normal course) and their families/care givers. Here are some important facts about hospice: • The focus is on comfort (palliative care), not on curing an illness. • Service typically includes physical care, counseling, medication, equipment, and supplies for the terminal illness and related conditions. • A specially trained team of professionals and caregivers provide care for the “whole person”, including physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs. • Care is generally given in the home. • Family caregivers may receive support. BEREAVEMENT SUPPORT A Bereavement Counselors are available to our patients, family members, and those close to or who care for the patients through Hospice of Kona’s, Maluihi Grief Services Program. Those in need of services have access to bereavement care for 13 months following the death of the patient on service. Maluihi Grief Services aims to support those seeking support, understanding and education on how to manage the emotions surrounding the death of a loved one.
