Hospice of Kona Foundation's, Maluihi Grief Service provides bereavement services to West Hawai‘i residents seeking support, understanding and education on how to manage the emotions surrounding the death of a loved one. Our services include; individual counseling, group support and memorial events designed for those who have experienced the death of a loved one. "Our approach embraces the mind, body, and soul through a variety of holistic programs." It is our hope that we may help you... ~ Understand your own unique grief process ~ Uncover ways to deal with intense emotions ~ Discover a place to talk about your loved one ~ Find something to do in this world with your loss WALKING WITH YOU... Services are provided at no cost through generous donations. These services are available to hospice families and friends, as well as to other community members; including youth and adults who have been impacted by the loss of someone close to them.

We offer grief support to all patients, their families and loved ones while on service, as well as 13-month support post-death of patient. Families and loved ones of a patient may find grief support through individual counseling with our specialized grief counselors - in person at our office, through tele-health or by phone. Bereavement support is not just for hospice patients and their families, but for anyone in the community actively grieving the death/dying of a loved one. This includes • Crisis Grief Intervention • Group or Individual Counseling • Family / Children and Adult Grief Counseling For those looking for community to cope with their grief, we offer grief support groups throughout the year for Hospice of Kona Families and community members to participate in, to include… GRIEF EXPLORATIONS – An 8-week closed group designed to understand and explore grief. SPOUSE LOSS - A monthly support group for those who have experienced the death or dying of a spouse/partner. CHILD LOSS - A monthly support group for those who’ve experienced the death of a child. All support groups are designed to support and educate participants and is facilitated by a certified grief counselor. The Circle of Remembrance is an annual memorial event for the community to gather, share, and remember their loved ones who have died. The event offers participants an opportunity to honor their loved ones, support other members of their community and be supported in their own grief. The ceremony includes refreshments, community entertainment, a picture table to display loved ones who have died and a memorial roll call for participants to honor their loved one during our luminary ceremony. YOUTH GRIEF SERVICES & PROGRAMS Maluihi Youth Grief Services was established to support all youth in their individual grief journeys, educate care providers, and bring grief awareness to our community. It is our hope that we can provide grief resources to help youth cope with the circumstances of their loss, teach healthy strategies to grieve and find support when they cannot do it on their own. We offer a variety of services and programs that are youth focused, educational and available to all children, teens, and young adults experiencing the death of a significant person.
INDIVIDUAL & FAMILY GRIEF COUNSELING Focused on youth bereavement and family grief support. Counseling supports parent/guardian bereavement and offers strategies to help their youth cope/understand the death of a significant person. Open to hospice families and any community members seeking bereavement support.
GRIEF GROUPS IN SCHOOLS Closed peer-to-peer support groups for students, in-school. Facilitated in partnership with a counselor at your child’s school. A 6-week grief exploration group designed with age-appropriate activities and coping strategies. Open to all public, charter and private school partners.
Focused on youth bereavement and family grief support. Counseling supports parent/guardian bereavement and offers strategies to help their youth cope/understand the death of a significant person. Open to hospice families and any community members seeking bereavement support.

A mentorship program to educate designated facilitators on our grief support group curriculum to engage their own independent grief group at their school or program. Facilitators register for their group and receive curriculum, supplies, permission forms and evaluations. We provide consultation support for the group, grief counseling for students and their families when requested as well as grief support/counseling for facilitators when requested. HO'OPAPA PROGRAM

By recognizing the unique needs of America’s Veterans and their families, community providers, in partnership with VA staff, will learn how to accompany and guide them through their life stories toward a more peaceful ending.
