A HOME AWAY FROM HOME... It is the mission of Hospice of Kona to provide family-centered support, education and care to those approaching end-of-life; allowing our patients to spend their final days comfortably and in their own homes. When that isn’t possible, our hospice residential home offers an alternative to the traditional hospice home care and meets the needs of those patients and families seeking additional support. Our hospice residential home, Nakamaru Hale is situated on a peaceful coffee plantation in Holualoa. The home accommodates up to 5 residents in semi-private rooms for respite, transitional or longer-term care within a safe, supportive and nurturing environment during the final months of life. Our health care team works closely with the patient, their family and doctor to develop a personalized plan of care covering physical, emotional, spiritual, and social needs.

• 24-hour on call services for medical care • Regularly scheduled RN, Social Worker, and Spiritual Care provider visits • Volunteer Support Services • Home Health Aide Services • Coordination of supplies, equipment, community services • Family member/Caregiver training for patient care • Fully equipped kitchen and dining area • Semi-private rooms • Wheelchair accessibility • Modified diets as needed • 24-hour supervision

Our hospice residential home is operated by funds generated through annual fundraising and supported largely by the Hospice of Kona Foundation’s, Memory Lane Thrift Stores. All donations and dollars spent at our thrift stores directly subsidize the operational expenses of Nakamaru Hale, to offer residents stay, at no cost. Consider a donation to Nakamaru Hale or shop in either of our thrift stores to support patients and their families.
